About
My good friend and NFL legend Roger Staubach is fond of the saying “adversity reveals genius, prosperity conceals it.”
It turns out that people and organizations vary greatly in their ability to successfully handle adversity ability—to bounce. And there is significant evidence that people and organizations can systematically increase their levels of resilience. The cultivation of resilience may, in the end, be one of the most important things a human can do.
What is it about tough times that brings out the best in us, both as people and as organizations? Why do some grow stronger with adversity while others simply melt down? The search for answers launched an intellectual journey covering a diverse topography—from university research labs to a Navy SEAL training school, and from studies of immigrant communities to discussions with world-class Olympic athletes and coaches. And it led to the publishing of Bounce, which I consider to be the beginning of the path of learning about resilience, not the end. Your participation in this community of bouncers will insure that the learning continues.
Nowbounce.com is a gathering place for bouncers—people interested in cultivating bounce in themselves and in the people around them. It is a place where we can honor and learn from highly resilient people and organizations, share our own personal bounce stories, and share a laugh over the bouncekills in our lives—people who, despite perhaps the best intentions—do things that kill the bounce.
I look forward to checking in to this community regularly and to learning much from my fellow bouncers in the months to come.
